What are the benefits of this qualification to the learner and employer?

This apprenticeship is designed to operate as the standard for workers on highways maintenance within rural and urban roads across the UK. The standard and end point assessment plan have been developed by employers who operate in this sector. Upon completion of this apprenticeship, the operative will have demonstrated the knowledge, skills and behaviours (KSBs) outlined in the apprenticeship standard for highways maintenance on rural and urban roads, which will enable them to carryout maintenance and repairs to these roads. Highways maintenance on rural and urban roads is a safety critical trade and each individual working in the sector must be aware of their responsibility to themselves, those they are working with, the end user and also others who they may come into contact with whilst carrying other their role e.g. members of the public.

As Apprenticeships are work-based training programmes, the training is ‘on the job’ – at the employers’ premises. This is arranged at times to suit the employer and the apprentice and is geared that way in order to minimise disruption and maximize business impact.
